The Mikwe

The basin in the middle of the room is a mikveh, a Jewish ritual immersion bath. Mikvehs are used for the ritual cleansing of individuals
and objects. It is the most valuable evidence of Jewish life in Dingden
and a rarity, since private mikvehs are only to be found in very few places. Its provision might have been connected with the occupation of the male members of the family as butchers.
