Leopold Humberg (1884 - 1942)

Leopold was the Humberg family’s oldest son. He worked as a cattle dealer and butcher. He remained unmarried and lived in his parents' house in Dingden. His neighbours describes him as generous and full of the joys of life. Like his brothers, he had fought as a soldier in the First World War. He returned as a war invalid and was decorated with the Iron Cross, Second Class, in 1921. Because of his services as a soldier he had hoped to be spared deportation, but in 1941, as the last Jewish citizen, he had to leave Dingden. In 1942 he was deported to Theresienstadt, where he died a short while later.
